Occupational Therapist

Karen has over 14 years of experience as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist. Karen started off her college years knowing she wanted to work with children and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Therapy from the University of Florida and went on to earn her Masters of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Florida International University. Karen is now licensed in North Carolina and has worked the last eight years at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Outpatient Care in Fort Myers, Florida.

Karen has focused her entire career as an Occupational Therapist working in pediatrics. She has worked in various settings including daycares, out-patient hospital clinics, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, private clinics and homes. Over the years, Karen has also worked with several Speech Therapists and Physical Therapists which has helped her to be better able to treat the whole child.

Karen has worked with children with a variety of diagnoses including developmental delay, autism, sensory processing disorder, down syndrome, prematurity, traumatic brain injury, and various genetic conditions. She has a special interest in working with children with sensory processing difficulty, autism, and prematurity. Karen approaches her sessions with an emphasis on patient and family-centered care with the family and therapist working collaboratively as a team to best help each child. As a mother of two children, Karen understands the importance of working within the family unit as well.
