Mimi, MS, OTR/L
Mimi attended college at the University of Scranton graduating with a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy in 2017. Her passion to work with children sprouted from her work as a paraprofessional at a specialized school for children with severe disabilities during summers between college semesters. This passion continued to evolve following internship at an outpatient pediatric sensory clinic where she got the chance to learn about sensory processing disorder while working with children ages 3 to 18. She felt that occupational therapy was the key to helping children perform their primary occupation: play! Mimi practiced as a pediatric school-based therapist for the past two and half years. In this position, she served children with various diagnoses, including, Down Syndrome, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, cerebral palsy, global delay, specific learning disabilities, and other developmental and fine motor delays. She gained experience with The Zones of Regulation and supervised occupational therapy assistants and fieldwork students. Additionally, Mimi concurrently worked towards her graduate certificate in Low Vision Rehabilitation from the University of Alabama Birmingham, recently graduating in August of 2020. She assists clients with low vision conditions to continue to live independently in their homes with the use of assistive technology, home modifications, and compensatory techniques. She is looking to expand this practice to assist children with low vision conditions (including visual perceptual deficits) as well. Through this experience, Mimi understands and appreciates the importance of working in the natural home environment and believes context is one of the best tools for facilitating engagement and participation. In her free time, Mimi enjoys spending time with friends, being outdoors, watching movies, looking for new recipes, and writing calligraphy. She just recently moved to the Raleigh area from South Jersey and is having a great time exploring what NC has to offer. She is highly motivated and excited to work with your family to help your children reach their goals!
