Amanda, OTR/L
Occupational Therapist
Amanda has 25+ years of experience providing intensive individual therapy to kids across the country and most recently in the Triangle. While at Thomas Jefferson, Amanda participated in the early intervention specialty tract, which involved additional training and mentoring in early intervention services. Over the past 25 years, Amanda has focused on working with children and their families. She has practiced in a variety of different settings including schools, outpatient clinics, daycare centers, and in the home. She enjoys working in the home environment to support children and families through education and collaboration.
After graduating from Occupational Therapy school in Philadelphia, Amanda worked in Delaware and Maryland providing services through an early intervention program working in both a group and individual setting. She provided services in an outpatient and home-based program, working closely with Physical Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Early Childhood Educators to run multi-disciplinary groups in a center-based setting and provide in-home services with a transdisciplinary focus. Amanda then moved to Ohio, where she provided outpatient services to pediatric clients with a focus on sensory-based therapy. After a relocation to North Carolina, Amanda returned to her passion for providing home-based occupational therapy services to children.
Amanda has worked with children and families to support their growth and achievement of developmental, sensory, and family-centered goals. She has experience helping children and families to address concerns in the development of daily living skills, sensory processing, self-regulation, social-emotional, visual motor, visual perceptual, fine motor coordination, motor planning, and sensory feeding. Amanda prides herself on establishing a good rapport with both the children and families that she serves. She utilizes play-based and strength-based approaches during therapy. Amanda enjoys working with families and children in their natural environment to help them grow and experience success in their daily lives. She enjoys including family members and caregivers in the therapy process to support education and carryover of developmental activities between sessions.
When Amanda is not working, she enjoys hiking with her dog, as well as, playing disc golf or spending time on the lake paddle boarding or kayaking with her husband. She enjoys listening to audiobooks and podcasts. Amanda is married with 3 children, and while her children are now adults, she understands the hectic and rewarding job of a parent!
