Kaitlin, OTR/L
Occupational Therapist
Kaitlin has spent the last several years evaluating and treating children of various ages and abilities with diagnoses including: Autism Spectrum Disorder, cerebral palsy, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, medically complex, developmental delay, sensory processing disorder, and oral motor/feeding challenges. Kaitlin has experience working with children in their homes, daycares, schools, and in outpatient clinic settings. She also has experience collaborating and co-treating with physical therapists, speech language pathologists, developmental therapists, teachers, ABA therapists, and psychologists to ensure children are receiving the best care possible. Upon graduation from OT school, Kaitlin moved from West Virginia to North Carolina and began working in early intervention, treating children in their natural environments (homes, daycare, community). Since then, she has also served children 0-21 in outpatient and school settings.
Kaitlin’s leadership experience includes training, supervising and mentoring occupational therapists including new graduates, supervising shadow students aspiring to attend OT school, and educating OT fieldwork students completing their clinical rotations. Kaitlin has participated in training for DIR/Floortime, Handwriting Without Tears, and feeding interventions and has experience teaching children how to ride a bike.
Kaitlin uses a child lead, play-based approach in order to foster a trusting therapeutic relationship. Kaitlin values working closely with each family to create goals and treatment plans that are meaningful to them and their child. She enjoys including family members into each session in order to provide education and resources to encourage carryover and progress toward goals between therapy sessions. Kaitlin is motivated by seeing her patients engage with increased independence in their daily occupations that are most important to them. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors exploring the beautiful state of North Carolina, traveling, and spending time with her husband, son, and two dogs.
