Occupational Therapist

Katerina (Kat) has worked closely with children with autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), as well as children with blindness and sensory processing disorders. She provided support for these children in their homes and schools to help them reach their developmental goals in collaboration with their parents, teachers, and behavioral health specialists. Kat also spent a considerable amount of time abroad in North Macedonia serving in the Peace Corps by providing support to adults with intellectual and physical disabilities.

Kat has been working with the special needs population for over 10 years in various capacities. She worked in the school system in special needs classrooms, oversaw the implementation of disciplinary actions, and managed an after-school program. Additionally, Kat has a strong background as a Registered Behavior Therapist (RBT), providing services in the child’s home, school, and anywhere else their natural environment might be. Kat provided resources and training for the children and their parents to develop safe and healthy family routines, find ways to manage unsafe behavior in the school and home, teach social skills among their peers and siblings, implement emotional regulation strategies, etc. Kat loves to deliver therapy through lots of play and fun activities, which helps her quickly and easily build rapport with her clients and make therapeutic sessions feel like playtime. Her calm, confident, encouraging, and optimistic demeanor allows her to build solid relationships with her clients and their families.

Kat recently moved to the Raleigh area from Colorado to be closer to her family and she is looking forward to spending more time with family, making new friends, trying new foods, and going to farmers markets.
