Skyler, OTR/L

Skyler is a compassionate occupational therapist dedicated to supporting children and families through all stages of development. She has experience across pediatric acute care and inpatient rehabilitation, supporting children with developmental delays and various medical complexities. Skyler excels in creating individualized, child-led, play-based interventions grounded in strong rapport-building, active listening, and understanding each family’s unique needs. Her approach emphasizes family-centered care, caregiver coaching, and meaningful participation in daily routines, helping children build confidence, independence, and joyful engagement in meaningful activities.

Originally from North Carolina, Skyler’s passion for occupational therapy (OT) began after a loved one regained independence and engagement in meaningful activities following a Stroke. This experience sparked her commitment to helping children and families optimize their engagement in meaningful activities.

Before becoming an OT, Skyler gained experience in pediatric and family-centered roles, including working in a pediatric rehabilitation hospital, serving as a rehabilitation technician for a young adult with autism, and supporting families as a health and wellness coach.

Skyler began her OT career in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where she supported children experiencing critical illness and medical complexity. She provided care during rapidly changing medical courses while promoting developmental progression, autonomy, and engagement in meaningful occupations. Diagnoses included developmental delays, brain injuries, genetic conditions, traumatic injuries, respiratory failure, and neurological conditions.

She also has experience in pediatric inpatient rehabilitation, where she used play-based interventions to support children in rebuilding confidence, independence, and functional skills for participation in play, school, and daily routines. Across both acute and rehabilitation settings, Skyler developed strong skills in caregiver collaboration, home program development, and adapting interventions to each child’s strengths and goals.

Skyler recently relocated back to the Carolinas and is living in Raleigh with her husband and Bernese Mountain dog!
