In the Fall, the cooler temperatures bring a large number of outdoor events to the Triangle area. Some of the most rewarding and memorable events are fundraisers for different charities and advocacy groups. Tis the season that many causes that are near and dear to our hearts host an event, such as a run or walk, to raise funds and awareness.

In the Triangle area of North Carolina, we are fortunate to have local chapters of many nationally known disorder advocacy groups. Most chapters of these organizations are not-for-profits that offer local programs and support for those affected by a particular disorder. Often funds raised locally have a local impact through the chapter; other times funds go towards the national goal of research for new treatments and a cure.

I highly encourage parents and families affected by a particular disorder participate in the fundraiser for their advocacy chapter. This type of event can help unite friends and family for a common cause, which in turn helps the affected family feel loved and supported. These outdoor events are usually kid-friendly and a lot of fun.
